Delaware Tech's Small Business Development Center provides assistance to small businesses and is a resource for business start-up. In addition to the listings, the college contracts with businesses to design customized training and services for their employees that can be provided on campus or brought directly to the business site. Courses are designed with the content of the training focused on needs identified by the employer. Facilities are available for businesses to hold conferences, seminars, and meetings. Seminars featuring nationally acclaimed speakers are brought to the county via satellite downlinks, and interactive classrooms at each campus have become essential to many businesses as a site to hold statewide meetings without added travel time and expense. Delaware Tech also arranges conferences for career groups such as "Enhancing a Child's World" for those working with children and "Families in Crisis" for social work professionals. In addition to the classes offered on campus and on site, the use of distance learning has greatly enhanced the pursuit of professional development. The number of online classes available makes it possible to learn "on your time and at any time" - whatever suits your schedule. The campus-based Environmental Training Center is a premier training site on the East Coast for the certification of water and wastewater operators; the college also coordinates technical assistance programs at water and wastewater facilities throughout the state. Delaware Tech has been recognized internationally for its efforts, and developing countries are seeking the college's help for education and training. For business and personal development, our Center for Language and Culture offers English as a Second Language classes, serving the needs of employers with non-English speaking workers. Knowing that career interests can be nurtured at an early age, the Owens Campus also offers Career Camps for middle and high school age students during the summer.
